So all of a sudden there’s a big push to “attack” ISIS, or ISIL, or Islamic State, whatever the MSM and the government wants to call them (was there a focus group conducted to determine what sounds scarier to us?). Now I understand the need to take down these crazy head chopping animals, but the FUD everyone’s pushing is off the charts…WSJ Polls supposedly show 2/3 of the public agree with attacking ISIS…My issue with polls is that they can be manipulated to bolster a particular viewpoint. For example, you can easily say you’re polling 1000 registered voters but the makeup of the voter pool can be (without telling you, the reader) 60/40 Republicans/Democrats, thereby skewing the poll towards Republicans…and they can take another 1000 registered voters a month later, but change the makeup 80/20. Most Republicans would probably vote for going after ISIS. And so by doing two polls, a month apart, but changing the makeup of the 1000 polled, you can show an increase in the number of voters approving an attack.
My point is, it’s hard to trust what you read. Everyone has a motive. Most of the time, the motive is money. Going to war allows for the Military Industrial Complex to increase military spending, thus more money going to all industries that are supported by wars. The media can benefit from a new story to follow, more people will read the articles, watch the news shows, all spewing the same FUD.
This is crazy – Cops were called into an assisted living facility because of a resident, a WWII Vet, who refused to go to the hospital to get treated for a UTI. They came, tased him, shot him with a bean bag, He died of internal bleeding. WTF?
Regardless of the man’s attitude, refusal to get treated, whatever his state of mind, this was not the way to deal with the situation. Unless the guy had a gun and was a danger to others, the authorities and residence staff should’ve used better judgement,
Let’s face it. There will never be peace in the Middle East. Or any where for that matter. Why? Because the vast military–industrial complex needs wars and conflicts to continue to make money. Tanks, jets, missiles, arms, ammunition, etc, don’t get sold to countries that are at peace. They get sold to countries in battle. Not just military equipment though. Then comes the reconstruction equipment. The building materials. The bulldozers, diggers, and cranes. If there’s peace in the Middle East, if there’s no body to fight, what would happen to all these companies? What would happen to all the factory workers? What would happen to the Congressmen who represent the states that have these factories? The money would dry up. They would all become irrelevant. They won’t let that happen.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. — President Dwight D. Eisenhower
According to news reports, Amazon.com is in talks to buy the company that makes this chips for its Kindles.
I’m no technical or financial analyst, but once a company starts expanding beyond it’s primary product (in this case, being a web retailer), I think it’s jumped the shark. Look at Dell, HP, even Google and Microsoft, going into the phone making business, how’s that working out? How’s about their Mp3 players? There’s no point in buying the chip company, IMHO.
Doesn’t it make sense to have those who advocate science on the House Science Committee? Of course it does. So why do we have knuckleheads such as these:
Republican Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, who, at his church and on video, has said:
“God’s word is true. I’ve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”
We also have the wonderful Representative Todd Akin, Republican from Missouri. He, this past August, had claimed that women who are victims of “legitimate rape”, cannot get pregnant because their bodies go into some sort of defensive mode and that “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
As I have said before…TERM LIMITS people. It’s the only way to get the corrupt (and in this case, stupid) officials out of politics.

Well, I figured the media would give Romney the “win” for the first debate. But Obama really did lousy. I mean, as soon as Romney mentioned he would cut PBS, the President should have shot back saying millions of kids grow up watching and learning from Sesame Street.I don’t know about your kids Gov. Romney, but my kids grew up watching Sesame Street and learned alot from it.
How could you cut back on educational programs yet increase spending on the military? Especially when money for the military can be gained from the draw downs of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. And point out how Republicans want to keep building tanks that the Army doesn’t want?
When Gov. Romney apologized for calling the Affordable Care Act “ObamaCare”, the President should of retorted, “ObamaCare, RomneyCare, same thing! Call it what you want”.
The President should have explained more on how the Affordable Care Act has helped insure millions who did not have insurance or had trouble getting insurance. He should of associated that with it being a moral obligation to help those who are less fortunate.
Can’t wait for the Biden/Ryan debate! I think Biden will be more forceful and enthusiastic.
Can’t wait for the debates come Wednesday. Unless Romney royally screws up, look for the media to declare the debate a win for Romney. They don’t want a one sided blowout victory. That won’t sell. They need Romney to do well and they will spin the debate story Thursday morning to make it seem like he did even if he doesn’t.
